  • RFE Round-Up/Father Daughter Dance Reminder (4/19/2018)
    Race Day Round-up: 
    Many, many thanks to all St. Ursula families! SUS students sent out over 10,000 Race for Education letters this year. To date, we raised over $76,500.00, so please tell your family and friends to keep sending in those sponsor letters and donations! Money will continue to come in even after the Race Day. We’ll keep you updated on the total! You will receive your child’s returned letters in mid-May so you can send out “Thank You” notes to your sponsors.
    • The Race Day will be held this Friday – April 20th
    • Participants can be out of uniform – No shorts are permitted this year and please wear tennis shoes.
    • Water bottles are allowed.  Please send a water bottle marked with your child’s name so that he/she can take it outside while he/she runs.
    • The weather looks sunny and cool, but if there is precipitation, the decision may be made to hold activities in the gym. If this is the case, there will not be room for parents to attend. Only those previously scheduled to work will be allowed in the building.
    • As long as we are outside, parents are invited to come and watch. Please park in the church lot, but leave at least 5-6 spaces open near the church office for the office staff and visitors.
    • Pre-K – 2 will be outside from 8:30 to 9:15
    • 3 – 5 will be outside from 9:30 to 10:30
    • 6 – 8 will be outside from 10:45 to 11:45
    • DISMISSAL IS AT 12:10. The St. Ursula and St. John’s parking lots will not be available until 11:50.
    • CONGRATULATIONS to the 617 students who brought in their 10 RFE Sponsor Letters on time. You all will be enjoying a PIZZA PARTY on May 3, 2018! (Teachers will have the list and let you know who will be invited)
    • CONGRATULATIONS to the 324 students who brought in their 15 RFE Sponsor Letters on time! We hope you enjoy using your NO UNIFORM PASS on May 3, 2018! (Teachers will have the list and let you know who qualified)
    • CONGRATULATIONS to the 140 students who brought in over 35 RFE Sponsor Letters on time! You will be invited to a Morning of Fun on May 10, 2018! You will enjoy a fun breakfast in the gym, games, activities, and a chance to win prizes. PLUS you can be out of uniform on that day too! (Teachers will have the list and let you know who will be invited)

  • Info/Flyers for Week of 4/16 (4/19/2018)

    Information:

    1. Race for Education – Friday, April 20 is our Race for Education. For those students who are participating you may be out of uniform, but no shorts please. PK-2 will race from 8:30-9:15; Grades 3-6 from 9:30-10:30; Grades 6-8 from 10:45-11:45. If you plan on attending or arrive before 11:50 you will need to park on the St. Ursula Church lot.
      • Reminder: We will have a 12:10 dismissal. Both the St. John’s and school parking lots will not be available until after 11:45. Please make sure you tell whoever is picking up your child.
    2. St. John’s Parking Lot – St. John’s parking lot is not available to parents from 8:15-2:00 on Thursday, April 19. Please do not arrive before 2:00 p.m. for dismissal if you park on this lot.
    3. Summer Uniform – Summer uniforms start on May 1st. Please do not start before this date.
    4. Mothers’ Club Meeting – Don’t forget to come to the Mothers’ Club meeting tonight (4/18) at 6:45 p.m. in the school library. Food and drink will be served.
    5. Fathers’ Club Golf Tournament – We still have several foursomes available in the 24th Annual Father Robert C. Jones Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, May 11, 2018. Tee off is at 1:00 p.m. If you are interested in playing, please contact Kenny Drury at druryjmu18@gmail.com.
    6. Ident-a-Kid – It is not too late to participate in Ident-a-Kid. Forms were sent home last week. They will be here on Tuesday, April 24th in the morning.
    7. Box Tops – Keep sending in your Box Tops. 8B is in the lead with 1000 Box Tops, followed by KC with 750, and 2B with 600. You can send in 50, neatly trimmed, unexpired, Box Tops and receive one service hour. The winner will get to silly string Mrs. Glinowiecki on Field Day. The contest ends on May 3rd.
    8. Middle School Youth Ministry – Middle School Youth Ministry will have a Movie Night from 7-9 p.m. in the Spiritual Center this Friday, April 20th. Vote for the movie you want to watch on Instagram! We’ll have snacks and games so bring your friends.
      • Middle School teens join hundreds of other middle school youth for the “Rise Up” event on May 12th from 12:45 pm – 9 pm at St. Louis in Clarksville. There’ll be inflatables, games, service opportunities, breakout sessions, music by national artist, Ike Ndolo, as well as main stage presenter and beat boxer, Paul J. Kim. Cost is $20.00 to cover the activities and food. Registration packets can be found on the St. Ursula Youth Ministry website. Contact Jackie with any questions.

    2. Extended Day Registration for 2018-19 – If you are intending on using Extended Day next school year you need to register. Please see the attached registration packets for those entering grades K-8 next year and a separate packet for those entering PK. The registration deadline is April 27, 2018.
    3. Field Day Permission Form/Information – Attached is the letter providing details for the Field Day scheduled for May 4th. It is important that you read this as it outlines procedures for a rain date, etc. Also attached is the permission form which is due on April 26, 2018, as well as instructions for Field Day at Double Rock.

    1.  Choir Festival – The Choir will be performing in the Archdiocese of Baltimore Choral Festival Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 12:45.  Feel free to come and watch us perform.

    1. Mothers’ Club Meeting  – Our Mothers’ Club meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 18th at 6:45 p.m. in the school library.  Food and drink will be served.  Please RSVP to the mothersclub@stursula.org.  Hope to see you there!
    1. Radio Announcement – The SUFC will be talking about the golf tournament on WNST Radio (1570 AM) tomorrow, Thursday 12 April 2018 at 7am with Nestor Aparcio. Tune in if you can to hear wonderful things about our school.

    1. Prayer Service  – On Thursday, April 12, 2018, Archbishop Lori will be hosting a special prayer service to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. The prayer service will take place at 7PM at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, and will feature the Reverend Raphael Gamaliel Warnock, Ph. D., Senior Pastor at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. See the attached flyer.

  • BOOST Scholarship Program (4/11/2018)

    The Maryland State Department of Education BOOST scholarship program will provide $7.6 million in nonpublic school scholarships for qualifying students for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. The “BOOST” Program, or “Broadening Options and Opportunities for Students Today,” will enable low-income families to attend nonpublic schools.

    Who’s eligible for BOOST?

    • Low-income students whose family income is at or below 185% of the federal poverty level:
      • Family of 2 (e.g., one adult and one child): $30,044
      • Family of 3:  $37,777
      • Family of 4:  $45,510
      • Family of 5: $53,243
      • For additional family size information, visit www.educationmaryland.org/BOOST
    • Public school students, as well as current nonpublic school students, may apply.

    Information: 
    1. Out of Uniform – As a conclusion to our Happiness Weektomorrow will be an out of uniform day.  We are asking students to dress in one of the three attires:  Oriole, Spring, or Easter.  The same guidelines followed with Dollar Day remain.  Happy and Blessed Easter!
    1. 12:10 Dismissal – Just a reminder that tomorrowMarch 29 dismissal will be at 12:10.  Extended Day is open for those who are registered.  School will reopen on Monday, April 9.
    1. Service Hours – If you are still in need of service hours you may donate two books of Forever stamps for one hour of service or 3 reams (500 sheets per ream) of 8 ½ x 11 paper for one hour.
    1. Box Tops – We are in the final stretch for our Box Top contest for this school year.  As in the past, the winning homeroom will get to silly string Mrs. Glinowiecki on Field Day.  So if you have 50, unexpired, box tops, neatly cut send them in with your child.  Please put them in a baggie with the amount and homeroom listed on the outside.  You will receive one service hour for every 50 box tops.
    1. The Mothers’ Club Meeting – The Mothers’ Club meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 18 at 6:45 in the school library.  Mark your calendar.

  • 6th & 7th Grade Health Information (3/28/2018)

    6th Grade

    In preparation for your son/daughter’s entry into 6th grade, we are requesting that an updated health assessment, completed by your physician, be submitted to the health room. Although this physical is not mandatory for entry into sixth grade, it is recommended. Often, health forms are submitted upon your child’s entry in SUS at a younger grade (most often Pre-K and Kindergarten) without further update provided. A lot has changed since that time!

    Submitting an up-to-date health assessment at this time is also beneficial as many students will receive their required vaccinations needed for entry into seventh grade, with their 11 year well child visit. These vaccines are mandatory as set forth by The Maryland State Health Department.

    7th Grade

    As your child prepares to enter seventh grade we would like to remind you that there are two mandatory vaccines required for entry in the seventh grade. These vaccines are:

    The T-dap vaccine
    The meningococcal vaccine
    Proof of both vaccines is required prior to the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year.

    Often times it is discovered that you child has already received these vaccines with their 11 year well child visit. Simply request from your pediatrician an up-to-date print-out of your child’s vaccines and submit them to the health room at any time. If, however, one or both of the two vaccines has not been administered an appointment must be made for the administration of these vaccinations prior to the onset of the school year with confirmation provided via an up-to-date print-out from your health care provider. If you have already provided the updated vaccination information please disregard this email.

  • Children’s Liturgy of the Word Mass (3/23/2018)

    The St. Ursula Church community would like to invite you to it’s CLOW mass (Children’s Liturgy of the Word) this Sunday, during the 9:00 am and 11:00 am masses. The children will leave during the Liturgy of the Word to hear the children’s version of the readings, a reflection, complete an activity, and return during the offertory. We hope you can join us during one of these masses. It would be a great time to see you there.

    If you are unable to make it to one of these masses perhaps you could attend a regular mass on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 pm or early Sunday morning at 7:30 am. Remember spending time with God is a great way to share your faith with your family.
