Mrs. Rutledge (KB)

Mrs. Rutledge

Pre-K Teacher B.S., Child Development, Lynchburg College Teaching at St. Ursula School since 2009

I have always known I wanted to be a teacher. Growing up I enjoyed helping my mom in her classroom. I attended Catholic school from kindergarten through 12th grade so when it came time to choose my career path I knew being a teacher in a Catholic school was where I belonged.

  • 12/4-12/8 (12/4/2017)

    Thursday:

Tomorrow is an early dismissal day with parent/teacher conferences in the afternoon and evening.  Please email me if you are unable to make the conference that you signed up for.

Today we “traveled” to France.  Ask your child to tell you something they learned about Christmas in France.

I know that I don’t give the children homework often.  Please take some time to practice the sight words we have learned so far. ( a, the, see, and, I, we, like)  The best “homework” you can do is to read with your child.  Have your child practice sounding out words and blending sounds together.  To enhance their number sense talk about numbers and problem solve using real life situations.  If the children are adding two groups of items, have them practice starting from the bigger number and adding on.   Write sentences together, making sure not to tell your child how to spell every word that they don’t know how to spell.  Instead encourage them to sound the word out and write down all the sounds they hear.  It’s okay if they don’t write the word perfectly.  That is part of the process. For example a child might write the word park as prk or prc.  That is great.  The more the children write the better and children who are focused on their writing being perfect tend not to write a lot because they will only use the words they know how to spell.   Have fun with them.  It is amazing watching them progress so much in such a short period of time.

    Wednesday:

This week we began learning about Holidays Around the World.  On Monday we traveled to the Netherlands and we will be traveling to France tomorrow.  The children are enjoying these activities and looking forward to where we will go next.

On Monday our class made gingerbread glyphs in the computer lab.  Below is the link for you to look at their work.

    Tuesday:

I brought in several boxes of tissues but we are down to 1.  If you are headed to the store and could pick up some tissues for us we would be very appreciative.
